Remote Viewing: The Science of Perceiving Beyond the Physical Senses

What if the mind could gather information about a place, object, or event without any physical connection to it at all? This is the central premise of remote viewing — a structured, trainable practice that has quietly moved from classified military research into modern applications, including medical and wellness contexts.

What Is Remote Viewing?

Remote viewing (RV) is a disciplined method of perceiving information about a distant or unseen target using extrasensory means, rather than the five physical senses. Unlike free-form psychic impression, remote viewing follows a formal protocol — a structured sequence of stages designed to reduce mental "noise" and allow accurate signal data to surface.

The most well-known version of this protocol is Controlled Remote Viewing (CRV), originally developed by Ingo Swann and Dr. Harold Puthoff. CRV organizes a session into clearly defined stages — beginning with ideograms (the viewer's first spontaneous physical response to a target) and progressing through sensory data, movement exercises, and increasingly refined levels of detail, including what practitioners call Stage IV matrices.

From Classified Program to Modern Practice

Remote viewing's roots trace back to a declassified U.S. government initiative — commonly referred to as the Stargate Project — conducted from the 1970s through the 1990s. Researchers and operational viewers at Fort Meade worked to develop and apply these protocols in real-world intelligence contexts, training a small number of viewers under Swann and Puthoff's original methodology.

Since declassification, that body of knowledge has moved into civilian training programs, research organizations, and increasingly, into therapeutic and consciousness-focused applications — including work at the intersection of remote viewing and health.

A Modern Practitioner: Shiva Amini

One of the practitioners carrying this work forward today is Shiva Amini, Integrative Consciousness Specialist and Functional Wellness Consultant at Body of Harmony Institute of Health & Healing.

Shiva's path into remote viewing reflects the caliber of training the field's serious practitioners pursue. She trained in Controlled Remote Viewing directly under Paul Smith, widely regarded as the longest continuously active CRV teacher today, and studied Extended Remote Viewing (ERV) — a technique using a relaxed, hypnagogic state — under intuitive detective Pam Coronado. Her training continued with sub-specializations under Skip Atwater (retired President of the Monroe Institute and former Operations and Training Officer for the U.S. Army's remote viewing program) and Bill Ray, one of the five original Stargate program viewers trained personally by Ingo Swann. She also studied Tactical Remote Viewing, remote influence, and out-of-body work under Angela Thompson Smith, and continues advanced training with German researcher Jana Rogge.

Shiva has applied this foundation to develop a specialized focus on Medical Remote Viewing, conducting hundreds of individual sessions aimed at helping people identify energetic and physiological imbalances. Her work bridges intuitive perception with the clinical and integrative framework at the heart of Body of Harmony's approach to patient care.

Her work in the field has been featured publicly, including in the documentary Remote Viewing: Psychics Among Us, and in the demonstration video Remote Viewing Proven in This Paradigm Shifting Demonstration.

Shiva's work has also earned recognition in print: her Stage IV "Ettal Abbey" remote viewing session was selected as a sample session for the book Controlled Remote Viewing: Useful Tips and Tricks by John P. Stahler — the same volume that carries a foreword by her own teacher, Paul H. Smith. In his preface, Stahler personally credits her, thanking "Paul and Jana's student, Shiva Amini, for allowing the use of her excellent S-IV Ettal Abbey session."

Why This Matters for Integrative Health

At Body of Harmony, we believe that healing draws on more than one system of knowledge. Just as Clinical Homeopathy and Functional Medicine look beyond a single symptom to the whole patient, disciplines like remote viewing invite us to consider dimensions of perception and consciousness that conventional models don't yet fully explain.

Whether or not one is a formal practitioner, the underlying principle is one worth sitting with: structure and discipline — not vague intuition — are what separate meaningful practice from guesswork, in remote viewing as in medicine.

Body of Harmony Institute of Health & Healing is dedicated to integrative approaches that honor both established clinical science and emerging frontiers of consciousness and healing.
